This will be our sixth annual survey. In 2024 66 DVFF’rs reported nearly 1,200 days on the water in 23 states and 15 foreign countries. Send me your data and attend the December Open House to view the Memorable Catches retrospective. I also want a photo of your favorite catch this year and a brief story. You’ll be able to see yourself in the show and find out what I say about you. So far, I have 44 individuals submitting over 100 photos. I’m looking for at least 75 members contributing. Don’t be left out.

Send via email (alanchristian87@gmail.com), the following: (1) Number of Days Fished, (2), Number of Days Out of State, (3) Favorite California Fishery and (4) Locations Out of State.

Western Montana Blue Ribbon Trout Streams, with John McKinnie

Speaker 2026.01 McKinneyJoin us in January to see, firsthand, Western Montana blue ribbon trout streams. John McKinnie will personally take us on visits to the Clarks Fork, Rock Creek and the Bitterroot, Blackfoot and Missouri rivers. These are all fisheries that will be visited during the club’s May 2026 trip, lead our own Jeff Wolk. Meet John in person, signup for the trip, and gather information for a future Montana fly fishing sampler, or just log thoughts for your “Merry Fishmas” Dreams. Learn more about McKinney Fly Fishing at McKinnie Fly Fishing Outfitters of Montana – from which we explore the Blue Ribbon Trout Streams of the Treasure State.

John was two months old on his first fishing trip. Growing up in Glenwood Springs, Colo. John spent almost every weekend sitting on the banks of the famous Roaring Fork. He honed his skill on the Green, North Platte and Frying Pan rivers, and on many other western waters. When John hit 30, he decided to turn a hobby and passion into a career, and headed north to Montana. Since moving to Big Sky Country in 2011, John has been “living the dream”, fishing the Big Hole River, Missouri River, Blackfoot River and Rock Creek from his home base in Phillipsburg, Mont. Guiding has developed in John a passion for teaching and an appreciation for introducing people to Montana's beauty and serenity.

After settling in Philipsburg in 2015 John, and his wife Gwyneth, now have welcomed two beautiful girls into their family. In the last couple of summers Jessie, six years old, and Eliza, four years old, have become his favorite clients!
