Jim McCombs fishing Hot Creek, Sept. 2008

Welcome to the Diablo Valley Fly Fishermen club website. We are a group of men and women who share a common interest in the sport of fly fishing. The members of the DVFF help each other develop their skills and knowledge in the pursuit of this fascinating sport.

The DVFF serves its members through club activities and resources including a novice seminar, a Youth Fly Fishing program, skills seminars, fishing outings, guest speakers at regular meetings, an online forum, a DVD lending library, Facebook page, and an annual auction.

The club sponsors a scholarship for research in Fisheries Biology and/or Riparian or Limnetic Ecology by a student of the UC Davis College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, Center of Aquatic Biology and Aquaculture. The DVFF also supports a large Trout In the Classroom program and sponsors the local Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing-Martinez, CA program.

Anyone interested in fly fishing is eligible and welcome to become a member of the DVFF. For a little insight into our club, watch The DVFF's 50th Anniversary video.

Peacock Bass Fly Fishing in the Amazon Jungle, with Rob Anderson

2019.06 Speaker AndersonImagine sneaking along a small riverbank in the Amazon jungle in a shallow running boat. The only noise interrupting the sounds of nature is that of a fly line running through the guides of a fly rod. Suddenly, along the bank there is an explosion on the water and baitfish scatter. A large streamer hits the water near the bank, starts to move just under the surface and the water explodes, the fly line goes tight and a tug-of-war between a huge peacock bass and a fly angler begins. This month’s speaker, Rob Anderson will describe how this “bucket list” fly fishing trip can become reality.

Rob Anderson has hosted trips to the Amazon Jungle for almost two decades and will share insight and highlights about fishing for peacock bass, as well as the great guided outings out of Reno Fly Fishing Outfitters, including Pyramid Lake. Rob will outline his 18 years of experience taking anglers to the jungle to fish, including the most exclusive fly rod peacock bass destination in the world – not only a an awesome private fishery but a source of jobs and better quality of life for the local villagers. Through his efforts, the Xeriuini River Preserve no longer allows commercial fishing, logging or deforestation.

Rob has been in the fly-fishing business for many years. His company has flourished in the Reno area, offering local guide trips, clinics, classes and outings. Rob helped the original Reno Fly Shop earn the first ever Fly Shop of the Year Award for excellence in the industry during 2002. Rob was also the first ever fly fishing guide at Pyramid Lake. He has been taking anglers fishing at Pyramid and other local destinations for 20-plus years. Rob also operates the BucketList Fly Fishing Adventures travel business, which is centered around his private peacock bass operation on the Xeriuini River.
