Make Dry Fly and Emerger Fishing Work, with Skip Morris
The author of multiple books on fly fishing, Skip will talk about dry flies of all kinds, from floating to half-floating emergers. Beginners and seasoned fly fishers alike will find plenty of interest in his presentation: when to and not to fish an attractor (along with a look at some excellent attractor patterns), casts for achieving a drag-free fly drift, how to sink tippet to turn it almost invisible, dry flies on creeks vs. dry flies on rivers, when to twitch a dry fly, a close look at various dry-fly designs and how they affect the way each pattern is fished, considerations for choosing the right fly to imitate various insects, and more. Not merely a dry classroom presentation, “Make Dry Fly and Emerger Fishing Work” will include stories and humor woven into it, to entertain as well as inform.
Skip has written 21 books on fly fishing and fly tying during the past 25 years. Among them are “Fly Tying Made Clear and Simple,” Western River Hatches,” “Trout Flies for Rivers,” and “Morris & Chan on Fly Fishing Trout Lakes.” He has also written over 300 magazine articles. Skip has also served among the hosts of a national fly-fishing television show and several instructional DVDs. As a speaker, Slip has presented in California, Arizona, Michigan, Iowa, Texas, and Alabama, and other states, three Canadian provinces, and overseas. The spring 2014 issue of Fly Tyer magazine announced Skip as a winner of its lifetime achievement award.
Skip’s wife, Carol, provides much of the photography for Skip’s work and all the illustrations. Skip and Carol live on Washington’s lush Olympic Peninsula, with its myriad opportunities for both fresh and saltwater fly fishing.

The DVFF Board of Directors has implemented online video conferencing in lieu of monthly in-person club meetings. This action was taken to protect you, your family, and friends and to be in compliance with the Contra Costa County Health Department recommendation (and the California state-wide stay-at-home order of March 19, 2020) regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19). In lieu of in-person monthly meetings, you will be invited to join an online, interactive virtual meeting, during which will be able to hear our speaker and get fish reports and announcements. Members will receive an email with instructions on how to join these virtual meetings. Please stay healthy and safe. You can find the DVFF's COVID-19 Policies & Update Page here.
