Jim McCombs fishing Hot Creek, Sept. 2008

Welcome to the Diablo Valley Fly Fishing Club website. We are a group of men and women who share a common interest in the sport of fly fishing. The members of the DVFF help each other develop their skills and knowledge in the pursuit of this fascinating sport.

The DVFF serves its members through club activities and resources including a novice seminar, a Youth Fly Fishing program, skills seminars, fishing outings, guest speakers at regular meetings, an online forum, a DVD lending library, Facebook page, and an annual auction.

The club sponsors a scholarship for research in Fisheries Biology and/or Riparian or Limnetic Ecology by a student of the UC Davis College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, Center of Aquatic Biology and Aquaculture. The DVFF also supports a large Trout In the Classroom program and sponsors the local Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing-Martinez, CA program.

Anyone interested in fly fishing is eligible and welcome to become a member of the DVFF. For a little insight into our club, watch The DVFF's 50th Anniversary video.

The Jurassic Cutthroat of Pyramid Lake, with Joe Contaldi

During October and through May Joe Contaldi spends his guiding time at Pyramid Lake. His presentation will cover the lake’s history, peak times to fish, shoreline fishing with custom ladder chairs, wading, and gear selection. Joe will also go over the stillwater tactics he uses from his boat on this world-class fishery.

Speaker 2020.01 ContaldiJoe started fishing in New Jersey as a child and moved to Southern California during his high school years. Soon he was fishing all that California and parts of Nevada had to offer.

He has been a licensed guide since 1996 on the waters of the Eastern Sierra. Based in Mammoth Lakes, Calif., he is the lead guide and owner of Performance Anglers Guide Service and Pyramid Lake Anglers Guide Service. From May through September he spends his time in the Eastern Sierra guiding on Crowley Lake and the East Walker and Upper Owens rivers. Joe is a celebrity speaker at The Fly Fishing Show in Pleasanton and has been quoted in many articles and books, and has been a featured guest host on radio shows.
