Online Meeting Summaries

Welcome to the Diablo Valley Fly Fishing Club website. We are a group of men and women who share a common interest in the sport of fly fishing. The members of the DVFF help each other develop their skills and knowledge in the pursuit of this fascinating sport.

The DVFF serves its members through club activities and resources including a novice seminar, a Youth Fly Fishing program, skills seminars, fishing outings, guest speakers at regular meetings, an online forum, a DVD lending library, Facebook page, and an annual auction.

The club sponsors a scholarship for research in Fisheries Biology and/or Riparian or Limnetic Ecology by a student of the UC Davis College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, Center of Aquatic Biology and Aquaculture. The DVFF also supports a large Trout In the Classroom program and sponsors the local Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing-Martinez, CA program.

Anyone interested in fly fishing is eligible and welcome to become a member of the DVFF. For a little insight into our club, watch The DVFF's 50th Anniversary video.

IMPORTANT NOTE

The DVFF Board of Directors has implemented online video conferencing in lieu of monthly in-person club meetings. This action was taken to protect you, your family, and friends and to be in compliance with the Contra Costa County Health Department recommendation (and the California state-wide stay-at-home order of March 19, 2020) regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19). In lieu of in-person monthly meetings, you will be invited to join an online, interactive virtual meeting, during which will be able to hear our speaker and get fish reports and announcements. Members will receive an email with instructions on how to join these virtual meetings.

The annual auction has been postponed and will be rescheduled.

In addition, the Fly Fishing Fundamentals class scheduled for April 4 has been postponed. At this point, DVFF outings are on hold. Please check our COVID-19 Updates & Policies page, your e-mail and the DVFF's social media for the latest information on the status of outings and other club events.

Please stay healthy and safe.

2019 Member of the Year: Steve Spiller

Member of the Year 2019 Steve SpillerSteve Spiller was recognized as the 2019 Member of the Year last month at the annual DVFF Crab Feed for his cumulative contributions to the club as well as his support and advancement of the club during 2019. He was nominated by multiple club leaders including past Member of the Year award recipients.

Steve is widely recognized for his positive attitude, responsiveness to others, and his broad contributions to DVFF. To him, these behaviors are simply what you do as an active club member.

Steve has helped the club with fly tying instruction, rod building coaching, as an outings leader, and as a Fly Fishing Fundamentals coach. He has also served very capably as the club treasurer for the past five years. During 2019, he earned the Golden Trout Award, improved club processes, including the payment system, and implemented most of the work needed to change the club name. He also served as a director while continuing as a club officer.

Congratulations again, Steve!
