Remember last year when there was no river fishing because of high flows? Lance Gray told me about this tour in April 2017 as we rescheduled the Yuba tour for the third time. Lance’s quote last April was, “I was at East Park Reservoir yesterday doing a one of our new tours. We had a great time. Saw deer, elk, turkeys and bass with bluegill in the net. Great day!” So, I am hedging my bet for 2018 and adding this tour to our list of outings. Lance has agreed to take 10 DVFF members out for the price of $85 a person.

Lance’s Online Description is as follows:

East Park Reservoir sits in a hidden valley between the foothills and the Coastal Range. The lake was made when Stoney Creek was dammed. Originally the lake was called Lodoga Reservoir but was later re-named East Park. The west side of the reservoir sits in rolling hills covered with wild oaks. The east side sits in a basin, with the lake dotted islands and channels running between lagoons. It’s a lake that holds black bass, small mouth bass, crappie, bluegills and trout in the deeper areas.

We fish East Park using both floating bass poppers and sinking flies such as Clousers or Whistlers. The fishing can be great to fantastic at times. Find the pods of fish and you’re golden. Fly fishers should come armed with both weight-forward floating lines and sinking tip rigs ready to go. Our favorite sinking line is the Rio InTouch Streamer Tip line. You will also want a pontoon boat or float tube.
