Come experience world-class top water smallmouth bass fishing! Southwestern Oregon’s beautiful Umpqua River is one of a handful of places in Oregon where a determined angler can land 50 to 100 smallmouth bass on a pleasant late spring or summer day. This is a world-class fishery for both top water and subsurface bass fishing!  Fish sizes range from 8 to 20 inches.

The bigger fish can get up to 3 to 4 pounds. Once the water temperatures rise, the Umpqua’s impressive population of feisty bass go on a binge and are available in just about every piece of water.  We will also have the option of leaving the Umpqua and drifting the close-by blue-ribbon McKenzie River for trout, on the second full day of fishing.

The schedule:

  • Day 1 (Aug. 5) - Drive up I-5 to Sutherlin, Ore. (Seven-hour drive with optional 2- to 3-hour stop to fish the Upper Sacramento River. Stay in a Sutherlin motel.
  • Day 2 (Aug. 6) - Fish the Umpqua River on guided drift boats. Stay in a Sutherlin motel.
  • Day 3 (Aug. 7) - Fish the Umpqua River on guided drift boats. Option for some/all to fish the McKenzie River (same guides can drift either river). Stay in a Sutherlin motel.
  • Day 4 (Aug. 8) - Head home. Optional 2- to 3-hour stop to fish Upper Sac.

Trip Cost: This trip will cost an estimated $950 including shared cost of gas, guide fees and tips, shared motel room cost and 2-day Oregon fishing license.
