Trip Description:
Fishing at Deer Creek, located on Hwy 32 outside of Chico. Deer Creek and other creeks are just off Hwy 32 and fishing access is easy with pull outs along the Hwy.
Tent or small RV camping at Elam, Alder and Potato Patch campgrounds are first come first serve. Lodging in Chester offers Antlers Inn, Best Western Rose Quarts Inn, a 25 minute drive from the campgrounds. Everyone is responsible for making your own arrangements for lodging and camping. Meals are your responsibility, and some times the group is interested in sharing dinner meals at our campsites. We can discuss those arrangements later.
Potato Patch is the first campground you come to from Chico, at about 41 miles from the intersection of Hwy 99 and Hwy 32. Alder Creek campground is just 3 miles above Potato Patch and Elam campground is 4 miles beyond Alder Creek Campground.
Nymphing the creeks is typically productive, and dry flies could be productive especially during the hatch. The meadow area allows easy access and is great for those with minimal experience where wading and hiking is easy. Downstream, one can find pools in the rocky creek beds with faster water, and hiking over these rocks and wading takes moderate ability.
Gear: Use 4, 5 or 6 WT rods with floating line. Tight line or indicator fishing work well here.
Recommended flies: Will be provided before the trip.
