Carp & White Bass at Central Coast Lakes
Carp fishing will be in an all-day clinic format by guide (Dagur Gudmundsson) on both 3/31 (#1) and 4/2 (#2) (pick one, the other, or both). This will take place at Lake San Antonio, about 3 hours south of Walnut Creek down CA 101. Most in the group will camp at Lake San Antonio, but lodging is also available in Paso Robles – on your own either way. Limit is 6 anglers per day. $150 / day for guide fee, including tip. Register for each day separately. Depending on registration volume, we might collapse 3/31 and 4/2 into just 3/31.
On 4/1 there will also be an outing to fish for White Bass with Dagur. To participate in that please sign-up seperately.
For those not interested in fishing for white bass on 4/1, you are encouraged to try carping on your own. Carp are abundant all around the campsite. You can bring a watercraft and try your luck at bass or crappie. If you the 4/1 white bass trip is full, please join the waitlist as we have an option to go for white bass again on 4/2.
Costs above are subject to change based on final group size.
Recommended rods are 6 or 7 WT for carp and 5 or 6 WT for white bass. Floating lines for both species but having a sink tip available for the white bass can be helpful in higher water situations. Catching carp requires a stealthy approach with quiet and accurate casting. The white bass are much more forgiving! A selection of flies will be provided to registered participants.
Once set, the group will coordinate community meals (e.g., group potluck dinners on 3/31, 4/1 and 4/2) and camp provisions.
