Welcome to the Diablo Valley Fly Fishermen club website. We are a group of men and women who share a common interest in the sport of fly fishing. The members of the DVFF help each other develop their skills and knowledge in the pursuit of this fascinating sport.

The DVFF serves its members through club activities and resources including a novice seminar, a Youth Fly Fishing program, skills seminars, fishing outings, guest speakers at regular meetings, an online forum, a DVD lending library, Facebook page, and an annual auction.

The club sponsors a scholarship for research in Fisheries Biology and/or Riparian or Limnetic Ecology by a student of the UC Davis College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, Center of Aquatic Biology and Aquaculture. The DVFF also supports a large Trout In the Classroom program and sponsors the local Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing-Martinez, CA program.

Anyone interested in fly fishing is eligible and welcome to become a member of the DVFF. For a little insight into our club, watch The DVFF's 50th Anniversary video.

Reading Water - A Nymphing Approach, with Doug Ouellette

Doug Ouellette will share his over 50 years of fly fishing experience and the fine art of reading the water. Doug will offer a break down on river seams, pockets, pillows, essential nymphing techniques with and without indicators, fly selection, leader construction, rods, reels, and fish handling. He will also talk about safe wading and positioning on a stream.

Speaker 2019-05 OuelletteJohn Barr, author of “Barr Flies” says of Doug in his book, “Doug Ouellette of Calvada Fly Fishing in Nevada is one of the best stillwater fishermen in the country.” Over the course of several years on the water, Doug has developed some unique fly fishing techniques and fly patterns for both stillwaters and stream fishing. He is an Elite Angler with Pure Fishing/Hardy and is a contract fly tier for Umpqua Feather Merchants, with four cataloged patterns.

Doug resides in Reno, Nev., is a licensed fly fishing guide at Pyramid Lake and a Nevada “Master Guide.” He has been presenting comprehensive fly fishing shows since 1985, with a repertoire that includes “Pyramid Lake - Land of the Giants,” “Truckee River Trophy Trout” and “Nevada Stillwaters.”
